Cloves are the buds of a tree grown in the Indian Ocean Basin. The dried bulbs are dark reddish-brown in color, have a strong, aromatic odor and a hot pungent taste. Cloves are the strongest of all the aromatic spices.
Usage Tips
For richer flavor, add 2 or 3 cloves to long-cooking sauces, stews, beef stock or poached fruit. Used for their beauty as well as flavor to stud hams, pickled peaches and lemon slices.
